Vandals destroy crosses made by Eagle Scout
On Sunday, October 22nd, vandals at Northern Kentucky continued what has become a disgusting ritual: destroying a display of crosses representing lives lost to abortion. Even worse this year, the crosses were made and donated by an Eagle Scout.
This has become an unfortunate occurrence, and Students for Life of America (SFLA) is demanding the school show us a plan for addressing this issue and ensuring it never happens again (it has been happening on and off for 11 years running now).
“Northern Right to Life is a registered student organization at NKU. The activities of the group have always been peaceful and civil. It is unacceptable that they should feel attacked whenever they express their opinions on campus, which should be a safe space for free speech. This has been going on too long, on and off since 2006, and something needs to change” said Brenna Lewis, Appalachian Regional Coordinator for Students for Life of America.
SFLA is no longer going to accept an apology and an overture to free speech on campus. We are asking the school to not only formally denounce the vandals, but explain how they will prevent this from ever happening again.
Northern Right-to-Life said, “Our group is frustrated that our university has not stepped up to protect the free speech of its students. We should feel encouraged to share our ideas on campus, but for the last eleven years, we’ve experienced the opposite. The longevity of this politics-driven vandalism is intolerable on a public campus.”
